Wedding Photography for Carefree Couples - FAQs

Wedding photography is a big investment for a lot of couples (carefree and otherwise!), so I completely understand why you would want to find out everything you can about me/ her/them before signing on the dotted line. Don’t get me wrong, if a prospective couple has followed me for a while, they are probably already invested in me and my photography style, so by the time they’re ready to get hitched, it’s a no-brainer! Some super laid-back guys and gals feel assured by my 5* Google reviews and/or a personal referral (big THANK YOU to those peeps!), whereas others need to dig a little deeper to find out a few more extra details about me, my work, my experience, and my services before jumping in feet first.

If you haven’t done so already, you can find some FAQs on my Weddings page, but having answered many, many questions put to me by prospective brides and grooms over the years, I thought it was time to do a deeper dive into some of my most frequently asked questions… Ready? Let’s go!

How long have you been photographing weddings

Well, considering I shot my first wedding in 2013, I have come a long way since then and shot love stories all over the UK and Europe - I have been a full time photographer since 2020 though. So no more side hustle for me, this is my full time gig!

I discovered my love for photography through my study of multimedia in school and college before gaining a BA degree in Fine Art. I graduated in 2012 and spent the next few years shooting a bit but also working in various customer service roles, which really helped hone my interpersonal skills and customer journey. During the lockdown, I decided to use my time wisely and to my advantage (if you hadn’t already guessed, I’m not really one for moping around on the sofa!), and I went back to uni to complete my master’s in photography.

That pretty much brings us up to date - so yeah, long story short…10 beautiful years behind the lens shooting on average __ weddings a year, and I wouldn’t change it for the world!

How long have you been photographing weddings?

Well, considering I shot my first wedding in 2013, that means it’s been a whole 10 YEARS since my first ever wedding and since then I've travelled all over the UK and Europe shooting amazing weddings with cool AF couples!

Do you travel to shoot weddings?

Hell yeah I do!! I have a passport and a full UK driving license, so just give me the nod and I’ll be there! I’m always super happy to jump in a car or on a plane/train to shoot your special day. In fact, shooting weddings has given me the opportunity to travel more over the last few years, and I blimmin’ love discovering and exploring exciting new places, namely La Palma, Paris, Fuerteventura, and Cyprus!

I’m based in Mid-Wales and travel within the UK is already included in my wedding photography packages, but I can always provide quotes for destination weddings taking place outside of the UK. So, if that’s you - hit me up babes!

How do we book you for our wedding?

I LOVE this bit; the enquiry/booking excitement never ever fades! So, obvs please check out my pricing and brochure on my website, and soak up as much information about me and my approach as possible. THEN, if you think we’re the perfect match and I’m the girl for you, go ahead and get in touch! When you submit an enquiry through my contact form (link) you’ll see there’s a section where I request all the deets. Now, don’t try and get around this; I want/need to know EVERYTHING! From the venue to your dress to the suppliers you’ve already booked and details revealing your awesome wedding vibe, don’t be shy… spill!

If I’m free on your wedding date, I’ll get in touch to arrange a Teams call (I normally do these on Monday and Tuesday evenings) so we can meet (albeit virtually) and we can chat some more about your big-day plans. Following this, if you'd like to book me as your wedding photographer, let me know via email, and I will follow up with a contract and invoice. I need the contract signed ASAP please, and the £300 non-refundable deposit to be paid within five days to secure your date. When that’s all done, you’re officially booked in WOOHOO! Expect to receive a copy of my online magazine, jam-packed with hints and tips, and my wedding planning PDFs which are designed to help you plan your wedding day with ease… you’re soooo welcome!

What photography kit do you use?

Ok, ready to geek out? I shoot every wedding on two professional standard camera bodies simultaneously, both with dual SD card slots - this is to protect the RAW files should one card fail (this happens VERY rarely, but y’know, better to be safe!). I also shoot prime lenses, so I shoot with a wider 35mm angle which offers a natural perspective and an 85mm for precision. Shooting on both throughout the day means you end up with a really nice variety in your wedding gallery.

I also carry a backup camera body to ensure that if something was to go wrong, I’m always covered.

Do we have to have a pre-wedding/engagement shoot?

Whilst I can’t force you to do a pre-wedding shoot, there are some really cool benefits to having one ahead of the big day. I know you/your partner doesn’t really like having your photograph taken, so having a photo shoot possibly isn’t going to be top of the list of activities you’d like to do on your precious day off but hear me out. Imagine having those nervous, awkward in-front-of-the-camera moments on your wedding day, in your dress, in front of everyone. Wouldn’t it be better to get that out of the way in private beforehand? A practice run if you like…uh-huh, yep, told ya!

As visual storytellers, we photographers LOVE to get to know the real you; we’re experts at reading your body language and will work our arses off to make you feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera. If you don’t like posing, no sweat, I can help you with this on your pre-wedding shoot. We can discuss poses, dos and don’ts, and what you can expect on your wedding day. Plus, you get a gorgeous mini gallery of super sweet snaps of you two together in a location of your choice.

I also don’t expect you to dedicate a whole day to this; on average it takes around half an hour. Once we’re wrapped up, we can go for a coffee or a pint (I prefer the latter, haha), where we can get to know each other a little bit better in a lovely laid-back environment and have a chat about your wedding plans.

Afterward, you’ll promptly receive an online gallery that you can download images from and keep, or you can print them and have them delivered to your door. This is also a GREAT opportunity to experience how my post-wedding process works, how I’ll share your imagery with you, and how to use the online print store.
