Fun Shropshire Wedding Photographer
Your wedding day is one of the most exciting, emotional and crazy fast experiences you’ll ever have but it can also be one of the most overwhelming. With so much excitement, emotion and coordination packed into one day, it’s easy to get caught up in logistics (which you absolutely do not want).
The good news? A few thoughtful choices (and a bit of preparation) can make all the difference in how relaxed you feel on the day. Here are some top tips to help you truly soak in every moment of your special day (plus having me as your wedding photographer will help too).
I am all about planning a sh*t load before so you can completely let go 24hrs before.
1. Plan Ahead So You Can Let Go on the Day
The best way to feel calm and carefree on your wedding day is to do as much as you can before the day actually arrives. That means finalising timelines way in advance and communicating your expectations clearly with everyone involved. The goal is to avoid having to make decisions or solve problems when you should be sipping champagne and soaking up every single memory.
I love to help create itineraries with couples to ensure they don't feel rushed at all during their day and I always do this when we go for our prewedding photoshoot. We sit and have a pint or coffee after the photoshoot and create a detailed timeline so you're able to send this to all your suppliers and vendors way ahead of time so they know the drill.
2. Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff (Especially the Sh*t You Can’t Control)
No matter how meticulously you plan, sometimes things will not go exactly as you expected. Maybe the flowers arrive a shade off, the cake is slightly crooked or the wind picks up during your outdoor ceremony. IT'S OKAY!
Remember, the weather, traffic and tiny hiccups are out of your control but your mindset isn’t. Embrace the imperfections and remind yourself that they’re part of what makes your day unique. Rainy skies can make for stunning, dramatic photos, wind-blown hair often looks effortlessly beautiful and unexpected moments can lead to laughter you’ll remember forever.
Your guests won’t notice the small details but they’ll just see how happy you are. So smile, breathe and remind yourself "the only thing that truly matters is that you’re marrying the love of your life." And if that doesn't work, take a shot.
3. Don’t Overfill Your Day always Allow Time to Breathe
It’s tempting to want to fit everything into your wedding day: first looks, outfit changes, surprise entertainment, fireworks, the list goes on. But sometimes, less really is more. People won't be bored, they're at an event with other people and a bar. They will be MORE THAN fine.
Overstuffing your schedule leaves little room for the spontaneous, emotional moments that make the day so memorable. Instead, build in time to pause, breathe and take it all in. (A 2 hour drinks reception is always a winner because everyone will get their chance to chat to you!)
Give yourself a quiet 10 minutes after the ceremony to be alone with your partner. Step back from the dance floor at some point in the evening and just watch your guests having fun. Have a relaxed breakfast with your wedding party before the whirlwind begins. Those unscripted pauses often become the memories that stay with you long after the last song has played.
4. Leave Your Phone Somewhere Safe
It might sound scary, but trust me! DITCH IT! You don't need it!!!
Your wedding day is the perfect time to disconnect. You don’t need your phone. You don’t need to check texts, emails or especially social media. You definitely don’t need to worry about taking photos (that’s what I AM THERE FOR!).
Leaving your phone behind is one of the simplest ways to stay present. It allows you to experience your day through your own eyes, not through a screen.
You shouldn't need a copy of the timeline because I will always have a copy and if you've hired the right people, they'll be doing their jobs just amazingly to ensure everything is running perfectly.
You’ll be amazed how much more vivid and emotional your memories feel when you’re not distracted by notifications!
5. Make Sure Your Wedding Gang Know Their Jobs
Your wedding party is there to support you but they need to know what that actually means. Before the big day, take time to chat with your wedding gang (bridesmaids, groomsmen, family helpers, or whoever’s in your inner circle) about what you’ll need from them.
This doesn’t just mean fluffing your dress or fetching your lipstick. They might need to move decorations between spaces, round people up for group photos or guide guests to where they need to be. The more they know in advance, the smoother the day will run and the less you’ll have to think about.
Just be in the moment!
Your wedding day will fly by faster than you can imagine. You’ll blink and suddenly find yourself at the last dance wondering where the time went. That’s why it’s so important to consciously pause, breathe and take it all in.
Look into your partner’s eyes during the ceremony and remember that this is the start of your married life together. Listen to the laughter of your friends and family. Feel the love in the air.
At the end of the day, the flowers will fade, the cake will be eaten, and the dress will go into storage but the memories you make by being truly present will last a lifetime.
